National Endowment for the Arts – Map Data on Grant Terminations

This map visualizes data on National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) grants that were terminated or withdrawn in 2025 following the Trump administration’s revised funding priorities, which took effect on May 2, 2025. The original dataset was crowdsourced from nonprofit organizations whose grants were rescinded and first publicly reported in The New York Times .

For this visualization, the data have been aggregated to the state level. We removed discipline-level information and calculated two summary measures for each state: the number of affected organizations and the total dollar amount of NEA funding lost. This allows for a geographic overview of the impact of the terminations across the United States. Reminder: All map values are totals for each state.  Disregard individual county names.
