In response to the sudden shift in federal arts funding priorities under the Trump administration, a crowdsourced dataset was created to document National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) grants that were terminated or withdrawn in 2025. The dataset captures the scope and nature of these cancellations, which were first publicly reported on May 3, 2025, in The New York Times.
This dataset was compiled with input from nonprofit organizations that received NEA award notifications but later had their grants rescinded. Submissions were standardized to include key fields such as organization name, grant amount, state, and discipline. The resulting data offers a snapshot of how revised federal cultural policy is materially impacting arts organizations across the United States.
More information, including the original crowdsourced dataset, is available here.
