The Arts and Cultural Production Satellite Account (ACPSA) is a joint effort of the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to measure the annual size of arts and cultural economic activity across the 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia.
This dataset includes ACPSA’s primary measures—value added (a GDP-like measure of economic contribution), employment, and employee compensation—expressed as per-capita figures (for value added and employment) and per-job figures (for compensation) for 2023, the most recent year available. All quantitative variables are categorized into quintiles, showing each state’s relative position within the national distribution (e.g., top 20%, bottom 20%). These figures are available for all arts and cultural industries combined, as well as for “core” industries (those creating artistic and cultural content) and “supporting” industries (those distributing, exhibiting, or enabling that content).
